Meet John Rodick

John Rodick has worked in the snow removal industry for over 30 years. His journey began with plow trucks and walk-behind snowblowers, gradually evolving to embrace the Vanderzon business model utilizing tractors and snowblowers. This evolution not only expanded his expertise but also laid the foundation for the innovative strides he would later make in the industry.

In 2024, John won the prestigious Dean Fisher Innovation Award from the SIMA Foundation for this very invention, recognizing his independent spirit and innovative contribution to the snow and ice management industry.

A Unique Perspective

As both a seller of snowblowers and an end user, John occupies a unique position in the snow removal world. He understands the challenges firsthand, experiencing them in his own operations and hearing about them from the customers he has supplied with snowblowers. This dual perspective has given John invaluable insights into the industry’s pain points, particularly with the scrape and safety issues associated with inverted snowblowers, which often lead to dissatisfied residential customers.

The Birth of Viper Cutting Edge

Around 2022, after spending countless hours delivering snowblowers and contemplating solutions, John discovered a time-tested technology used in the truck plow industry that could address these issues. Together with some local contractors, John rigorously tested this technology built into his own snowblowers over two years, proving its efficacy in handling the wet, heavy, and packed snow common in Albany area. The result was the establishment of Rodick Manufacturing, LLC. and the invention of the Viper Cutting Edge, a product that not only tackles challenging snow conditions with ease but also offers safety to the operators and equipment. The Viper Cutting edge can also be adapted to both old and new inverted snowblowers, and adapt all types of cutting edges (poly, steel, AR400, etc.). Rodick Manufacturing also has a new cutting edge system that can be used on gravel driveways.

Addressing Rust and Durability

In addition to solving scrape and safety issues, Rodick Manufacturing identified another significant problem in existing inverted snowblowers: RUST and ROT. Existing inverted snowblowers often suffer from rust at the bottom of the units, which reduces their lifespan. This happens by design since typical inverted snowblowers have hollow cavity where water and condensation accumulate. Installation of the Viper Cutting Edge addresses this issue, enhancing the durability and longevity of the equipment.

Innovative Sales Approach

Understanding the diverse needs of his customers, Rodick Manufacturing offers  various purchasing options to make the Viper Cutting Edge accessible to everyone in the residential snow industry. The company remains committed to continuous improvement, regularly engaging with end users to gather feedback and ideas, ensuring that the product evolves to meet their needs.
